I’ve had the Ravenscroft, and it’s very good playability-wise. The tonal range of the Ravenscroft 275 at the ppp-p range is pretty good with some subtle variation of tone across the dynamic range, but is definitely more of a clean and modern sounding (some may say 'clinical') character which to my ears lacks the complex, bell-like tone of a well voiced Steinway or CFX at lower dynamics. The Ravenscroft 275 is a tighter 'studio' type piano, with the room mics not adding much ambience other than a narrower stereo image. Playability in my opinion is pretty equal. I own both the Garritan CFX and Ravenscroft 275. If you have some experience and are able to share, please do. Since there’s no demos, I’d like as much advice and testimony before I take a plunge. I’m not necessarily a fan of the tone, but I said the same thing about Garritan, and now I like it.ĭoes it have authentic long-lasting sustain? How’s the Ravenscroft? Bad pianissimo is a make or break for me. I really like VSL’s Steinway for how it lets you create such quiet pianissimos. Ravenscroft also has una corda and is newer.Īny testimonies on the playability? Especially in the ppp-p range, which is where most VSTs still fail to me. I’m still trying to exhaust all possibilities, though. I’m quite taken with the Garritan CFX and it’s become my main instrument because of the una corda.
